Secondary Extracurricular Activities

Performing Art GroupPerforming Arts

Performance art is a major component of student life at ICS.  The school offers students several opportunities to develop their craft.  These areas include, drama, choir (chorus), dance (a range from classical to contemporary), and musical theatre (from the study of opera to modern day Broadway/ west end style musicals).

As a part of the performing arts department students also learn valuable skills through the highly developed technical crew club.  These students receive the opportunity to train and work with experts from professional theatres across London.  Students learn skills of their choice such as lighting design, sound engineering, how to design and build a functioning, and practical set, and wigs and make up artistry.

The secondary school produces a main stage musical each year, a dramatic production, and a student showcase, often a melange highlighting student talent through singing, acting, or dance. As an IB World School students are selected to participate in workshops sponsored by the International Schools Theatre Association (ISTA) held each year in various cities through the region of Africa, Europe, and the Middle East each year.

ICS Mathematics Society

Mathematics is the language of the universe and is a major component of student life at ICS.  The school offers students the opportunity to discuss, engage and solve Mathematical problems in a forum that is completely voluntary.

The Mathematics Society is for students of any age, and those who take a deep interest in the quest to learn more about this unique language that human beings have created. The society is linked to one of the five areas of interaction of the IB Middle Years Programme, Human Ingenuity.  The process of explaining one's solution is inherent to this area of interaction and students are able to thread the regions that brilliant minds such as Einstein, Lebeniz, Rienmann, Euclid and Al-Khawarizmi.

As an IB World School students are selected to participate  at competitions throughout Europe each year sponsored by the International Schools Mathematics Teachers Foundation  (ISMTF) held each year in various cities through the region of Africa, Europe, and the Middle East each year.

Mr. Ean and Ms Ismet will be leading this years society and preparing students for competitions in Paris and Barcelona.  The Society meets each Wednesdays during lunch from 12:50 - 13:20 (starting term 2).

Students drinkingCooking Club

This school year students in ICS under the supervision of Mr. Keith and Mr. Sjors have the opportunity to develop their cooking skills and gain more insight into what it means to eat healthy. Apart from the food preparation and healthy eating skills students are also developing a sense of responsibility and team work. Cooking activities complement curriculum, particularly science and design and technology.

The ICS cooking club is open for everybody, from those who have never boiled an egg to the kitchen wizards. Our student chefs are lucky to be a part of very cosmopolitan micro community which guarantees they will never run out of recipe ideas. Luckily, students and teachers on the other side of the kitchen counter will be able to taste some of the meals as the cooking club will choose the most successful meals to be included in the school menu. The future plan of the cooking club is to work together with the eco club and students that are already growing vegetables in our own organic garden. We are proud to say that ICS cooking club proves that students in ICS are taking healthy eating and sustainable environment very seriously.

Music Club

The ICS music club is all about approaching music from new angles, discovering unexpected connections between the musical traditions of the world, and finding new ways to share a love of music with others.  Ultimately students may have the option to form their own school band. The music club meets every Monday.

FootballFootball Club

Mr. Sjors and Mr. Albano lead fun-packed sessions every Tuesday from 16:00 to 17:15. The football club is taking place outdoors in Hyde Park until the end of October. At the beginning of November we will practice in the Sports Hall of Imperial College (3 minute walk from the school). Students who join the football club will learn essential football skills and through fun-based drills and games will develop co-ordination and confidence while improving physical fitness.

Capoeira

Great new club this term is Capoeira Club. Every Tuesday afternoon students practise an Afro-Brazilian martial art that incorporates self-defence, acrobatics, dance, singing, music and culture into one unique art form. Capoeira club sessions prove that it is possible to have fun while keeping fit. Capoeira is taught by Formado Polegar, an instructor from the International Group Capoeira Nago. Mr. Polegar has been teaching children for 9 years.

PlantsOrchid Mania and Garden Club

This academic year ICS is running Orchid Mania and Garden Club. The club is set up with the mission to involve students in work on school’s eco garden while at the same time contributing to a bigger cause. ICS Orchid Mania Club is a part of the world wide charity organisation that supports people with HIV/AIDS. OM at ICS has chosen to support Mad About Art (www.madaboutart.org) a project in South Africa for children with HIV/AIDS.

Students are given the opportunity to be a part of the movement in which enthusiasm for orchid cultivation is used as a’ vehicle to raise awareness of and support for AIDS-related education’ (http://www.orchids.org/). Orchid Mania and Garden Club meets every Monday and under the supervision of Mr. Alan and Ms Caroline.
