With over twenty years of experience in both the UK and international education sector, I am a passionate leader with a drive to develop outstanding schools. In the early part of my teaching career, I was seconded as an advisory teacher. After moving abroad, I eventually began working for Nord Anglia Education, first as Head of Primary for the British School of Guangzhou, and later as Principal for The British School of Beijing. Most recently, I was responsible for the establishment of a brand new international school in the heart of Lisbon, Portugal's capital city.
I am originally from the UK, where I began my teaching career and have now 30 years of experience as a teacher and educational leader, working in national and international schools. Over the past twenty years, I have worked in International Baccalaureate schools in Munich, California and now in London.
I hold a Masters in Education, Certificate of International School Leadership and regularly lead school accreditation and evaluation visits on behalf of the International Baccalaureate.
"The minute you walk through the door at ICS London you experience the strong sense of community and positive energy. Throughout the school, high quality teaching and learning is evident alongside a focus on student well-being and extensive extra-curricular activities"
I am very proud to lead the secondary school and have the opportunity to work with a fantastic community of staff, students and families. I have now 10 years of teaching experience. I started my career with a BSc in Maths and Computer Science, followed by a MSc in Information Security and a PGCE in Secondary Maths, NPQH.
I have first joined ICS London as a Maths teacher and am now Principal for the last 3 years. My teaching approach is inquiry based in order to allow fundamental understanding of concepts and real life contexts to teaching, so students can relate to and enjoy the curriculum.
"The environment at ICS London is safe and trusting which enables an open door culture of working together. The size of the school means the impact of staff and student work can be felt more immediately and have greater significance which, I feel, is unique to ICS London."
I bring 25 years of teaching experience to my new role of Group Safeguarding and Welfare Officer. An English language specialist, I have been the Director of Studies for many ICS London summer schools ensuring educational success as well as the safety and welfare of students from the age of three upwards.
I am passionate about the importance that home languages play in language development and I have talked at an ECIS conference on how to weave home languages into learning and teaching.
"I am passionate about the importance that home languages play in language development, a value I share with ICS London, a school that helps English language learners to access the curriculum by creating personalised programmes."
My appointment as Bursar at ICS London is an enjoyable one as it brings with me a range of experience in finance and commerce both in the UK and Asia. Prior to joining the school, I was Director of Finance and Resources at the Campion School in Hornchurch and before that I spent eight years at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where I was Finance Business Partner. I also worked for ten years as a financial accountant at the Salvation Army’s territorial headquarters.
This quote from Benjamin Franklin is inspiring to me and I thought I share, ‘An investment in knowledge pays the best interest’.
