Leadership Team

Head of School, Mr. David Laird

With over twenty years of experience in both the UK and international education sector, I am a passionate leader with a drive to develop outstanding schools. In the early part of my teaching career, I was seconded as an advisory teacher. After moving abroad, I eventually began working for Nord Anglia Education, first as Head of Primary for the British School of Guangzhou, and later as Principal for The British School of Beijing. Most recently, I was responsible for the establishment of a brand new international school in the heart of Lisbon, Portugal's capital city.

As a parent myself, I understand how important choosing the right school for your child is. Education is the greatest gift we can give to our children, providing them with the right tools they need to succeed in life.

Our mission is to provide an innovative approach to education, inspiring each and every student to discover their strengths within a community of future leaders.

At ICS London, we have over 40 years’ experience providing a world class education. We deliver the International Baccalaureate (IB) across the entire 3-18 age range.

We take pride in knowing each and every one of our students. Our warm and stimulating environment encourages all our students to discover their strengths. Our talented and highly motivated staff inspire students to be the best that they can be.  By setting high expectations for learners, we expect them to develop into top candidates for entry into the best universities around the World.

Primary School Principal, Miss Sally Thorogood

I am  originally from the UK, where I began my teaching career and have now 30 years of experience as a teacher and educational leader, working in national and international schools. Over the past twenty years, I have worked in International Baccalaureate schools in Munich, California and now in London.
I hold a Masters in Education, Certificate of International School Leadership and regularly lead school accreditation and evaluation visits on behalf of the International Baccalaureate.

My own beliefs in education are strongly aligned with those of the IB and I am a parent of two former IB students who are a testament to the benefits of an IB education.
I am a lifelong learner who is passionate about encouraging the same love of learning in students, teachers and all members of the school community. I particularly enjoy leading small schools where there is the opportunity to build strong relationships with all members of the school community, like it is the case at ICS London; an essential aspect that supports student success.
On a personal note, I speak German, rusty French and enjoy music, sport and spending time with family. I also have an adventurous streak and have been known to tandem paraglide!

"The minute you walk through the door at ICS London you experience the strong sense of community and positive energy. Throughout the school, high quality teaching and learning is evident alongside a focus on student well-being and extensive extra-curricular activities"

Secondary School Principal, Mr. Muz Chohan

I am very proud to lead the secondary school and have the opportunity to work with a fantastic community of staff, students and families. I have now 10 years of teaching experience. I started my career with a BSc in Maths and Computer Science, followed by a MSc in Information Security and a PGCE in Secondary Maths, NPQH.
I have first joined ICS London as a Maths teacher and am now Principal for the last 3 years. My teaching approach is inquiry based in order to allow fundamental understanding of concepts and real life contexts to teaching, so students can relate to and enjoy the curriculum.

ICS London is a nurturing environment which focuses on the whole student to help them grow and fulfil their potential.
I’m a huge sports fan and have travelled in Central and South America as well as in Asia.

"The environment at ICS London is safe and trusting which enables an open door culture of working together. The size of the school means the impact of staff and student work can be felt more immediately and have greater significance which, I feel, is unique to ICS London."

Group Safeguarding & Welfare Officer, Miss Kath Tyler

I bring 25 years of teaching experience to my new role of Group Safeguarding and Welfare Officer. An English language specialist, I have been the Director of Studies for many ICS London summer schools ensuring educational success as well as the safety and welfare of students from the age of three upwards.
I am passionate about the importance that home languages play in language development and I have talked at an ECIS conference on how to weave home languages into learning and teaching.

In my role as Language Coordinator at ICS London, I have helped many English language learners to access the curriculum by working closely with teachers and creating modified programmes.
I have held safeguarding responsibilities at the school for many years and am currently the Whole School Designated Safeguarding Lead for ICS London. I am looking forward to sharing my expertise and knowledge with the rest of the Globeducate group.

"I am passionate about the importance that home languages play in language development, a value I share with ICS London, a school that helps English language learners to access the curriculum by creating personalised programmes."

Bursar, Mr. Steven Ng

My appointment as Bursar at ICS London is an enjoyable one as it brings with me a range of experience in finance and commerce both in the UK and Asia. Prior to joining the school, I was Director of Finance and Resources at the Campion School in Hornchurch and before that I spent eight years at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where I was Finance Business Partner. I also worked for ten years as a financial accountant at the Salvation Army’s territorial headquarters.

In addition to my financial background, in my earlier career, I led commercial strategy and policy and oversaw continuous improvement processes as Director of Breadfisher Ltd in London and Asia Director for PIC International Group PLC in Shanghai. As a chartered accountant, I also hold a Master of Business Administration from CASS Business School, the University of London and a Bachelor of Art Degree in Accounting and Economics from the University of Reading.

I love walking and cycling in Forest such as Epping and Hainault, and also volunteer as an accountant for a charity supporting orphanage in India and China.

This quote from Benjamin Franklin is inspiring to me and I thought I share, ‘An investment in knowledge pays the best interest’.
